| When we set up our group
we had one clear objective: to draw on different
musical traditions, while using other disciplines
like dance, drama, and anything else that would help
us convey our message.
Ayatana is the name we chose for this performance
and it is also the name of the group. Ayatana means
entrance and is of Roman origin. It is an open
invitation to both friends and strangers to partake
of what we have to offer.
Unfortunately, the news is full of appalling wars,
showing that we all too often forget our hospitality
to our fellow man.
This then is the message we want to get across.
Music has always drawn
different races together. “There
is no better remedy to racism than the mixing pot
which alloys apparently irreconcilable cultural
differences in new bonds of love.”
